Featured Guest: The Loggerhead Marinelife Center
March 4, 2024
At Wellington International, we believe in giving back to our community and fostering awareness about pressing environmental issues. That's why we're thrilled to announce our collaboration with Carbon Hoofprint to bring you "Sustainability Saturdays," a series of educational and interactive displays aimed at promoting sustainable causes. Starting from Week 5 through Week 12, each Saturday will feature a dedicated booth on-site, showcasing the incredible work of local and global environmental organizations. This initiative not only educates our equestrian community but also empowers individuals to take action towards a greener and more sustainable future.
This past weekend, Sustainability Saturdays kicked off with a spotlight on the Loggerhead Marinelife Center (LMC).
Throughout the day, the importance of keeping beaches clean, dark, and flat was emphasized. Attendees learned how simple actions, such as picking up trash, reducing light pollution, and filling in holes on the beach, can significantly impact the nesting success of sea turtles. Additionally, four sea turtles in need of support were raffled off for adoption, providing attendees with a tangible way to contribute to conservation efforts.
As sea turtle nesting season begins, it's crucial for beachgoers to play their part in creating a safe environment for nesting females and hatchlings. By adhering to practices such as keeping beaches clean, minimizing light pollution, and flattening sandcastles, individuals can help ensure the survival of these majestic creatures.

As a non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of ocean ecosystems, LMC focuses on public education, research, and rehabilitation, with a particular emphasis on protecting threatened and endangered sea turtles.
Visitors to the LMC booth were treated to a wealth of information and interactive activities. From brochures detailing LMC's initiatives to experts providing access to additional resources and programs, guests had the opportunity to learn how they could support marine conservation efforts. One highlight was the Jr. Research Lab activity, where participants could step into the shoes of a sea turtle biologist, locating their own sea turtle nest and discovering the steps taken to protect these magnificent creatures.
